I have been involved with art most of my life and have worked extensively with wheel-thrown pottery (especially dinnerware sets and other functional pieces), watercolor and stained glass. I have been doing stained glass off and on since around 1984. Initially, like everyone else, my pieces were simple and two-dimensional but I definitely prefer utilitarian/functional pieces since it is art, which serves a purpose beyond just being pretty.
These stained glass pieces are created by me to please those who own them, as well as future generations. They are created as heirlooms and are not fragile or delicate. I wash them with hot soapy water and towel dry. They only look delicate. I love all things classical. To me, classical creations never fade or diminish. Things that are classical represent the very finest of human achievements. It is almost impossible to improve on them.
I, like other serious artists love to create. It is a way of life and a major part of our person. We always strive for perfection and, in the process, create heirlooms.
